WHAT IS THE UNITED DAUGHTERS OF THE CONFEDERACY?
Our organization is made up of more than 20,000 women nationwide who are lineal or collateral blood descendants of the men and women who served honorably in the Army, Navy, or Civil Service of the Confederate States of America or who gave material aid to the cause. Our objects are Historical, Educational, Benevolent, Memorial and Patriotic, and our work is concentrated in these areas.
THE MISSISSIPPI DIVISION UDC
Organized in Meridian, Mississippi, on April 27,
1897, the Mississippi Division United Daughters
of the Confederacy has hundreds of members
in many Chapters located throughout the state.
Mississippi Daughters work diligently to
carry out the objects of our Organization.
DAYS OF OBSERVANCE
According to the Standing Rules of UDC General all bodies of the UDC are to observe annually, when possible, the following special days:
January 14 Birthday of Commander Matthew Fontaine Maury
January 19 Birthday of General Robert E. Lee
January 21 Birthday of General Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson
April 27 Confederate Memorial Day (last Monday of April in Mississippi)
June 3 Birthday of Confederate President Jefferson Davis
Sept 10 Founders Day
Sept 16 Birthday of Admiral Franklin Buchanan
Sept 27 Birthday of Admiral Raphael Semmes
Published monthly (with the sole exception of a combined June/July issue) by the General Organization of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the UDC MAGAZINE includes messages from the General Officers and news about Division and Chapter activities around the country. OUR HERITAGE NEWSLETTER
Believed to be the oldest continually published Division Newsletter in the General Organization, Mississippi's OUR HERITAGE is published four times each year (February, May, August, and November) and is provided to each member of the Mississippi Division UDC as a benefit of her membership dues.
